This Might Be The Dreamiest – And Cheekiest! – Blusher Set, Ever

Ever since we read our US counterparts waxing lyrical about theBalm Cosmetics How ‘Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Palette, we knew we had to try the product making Ally rethink her “pro-powder stance”. Some lucky subscribers are trying one of the palette’s blushers via their April Birchbox – Editorial Exec Grace shares more about the cheeky palette that’s got everyone talking:

The first thing that caught my eye when I opened theBalm’s How ‘Bout Them Apples? palette were the versatile coral, peach and red blushes inside. The second thing? Six shirtless men, each representing a type of ‘apple’ that theBalm had cheekily referenced in the title. I took a step back from what I was doing and called the team around – safe to say we all took five to decide our favourites!

We already knew theBalm Cosmetics housed their brilliant make-up formulas in kitsch packaging and tongue-in-cheek product names – other faves include the “What’s Your Type?” Mascaras, in Tall, Dark and Handsome or Body Builder and the Powder To The People Brush. As I’m a sucker for some killer word play action and a funny pun, theBalm’s cheeky attitude gets extra kudos from me.

I’ve always championed the fresh, dewy finish cream blushers leave on the skin – though I know some Birchbox staffers are “powder only!” kinds of people. There’s a place for both formulas, it just depends what look you’re after and what skin type you have.

To avoid smudges and streaks, the trick is to blend, blend, blend. And start light – you can always build, but you can’t take away! These silky formulas are fairly pigmented so you only need a small amount. Smile big to find the – yes! – ‘apples’ of your cheeks and apply a couple dots with your fingers. Then blend with fingers or use a buffing or stippling brush like I do – only use synthetic-bristled brushes with cream or liquid products. The moisturising formulas stay put for longer than you’d think, so they’re great for lips too.
